Smith and Wesson j frame
I have a smith and wesson j frame grip I bought it for concealed carry purposes, but I haven't quite found a setup I like. It came with a boot grip that I thought was too small to use. I couldn't hold on to it well at all.
I bought a Hogue monogrip made of nylon, and absolutely loved the fact that it was a completely snag free draw. When I went to the range I found the gun rotated laterally in my hand too much and I was regripping between every shot. Follow up shots were not rapid at all. It didn't matter how hard I gripped the weapon, I could not make it stop rotating. Not ideal for ccw needs.
I tried the Pachmayr compac and I love the way it feels in my hand when shooting, it doesn't rotate at all and follow up shots are quick because it fills my hand well. I don't like the rubber grip for ccw as it drags on clothing much too easily.
If anyone has any good ideas for a hand filling grip for the Smith and Wesson j frame revolver, please post recommendations and why. I prefer the wider grip of the Pachmayr compac but don't want the rubber I would buy it if it were made of wood, but I cannot find any such beast on their web site.

I want to make something happen. I always try to be fair in my dealing. I understand FN is no longer going to import the Hi Power; take that for what it's worth in the effect on values.
Well I think I lost it. I offered to buy a 1911 colt 45 automatic pistol sight unseen the other day. The price seemed right so what the hell. Well the gentleman showed up with it and I bought it. I have to say I'm not a fan of nickle plating but it's growing on me.
I can't figure out the barrel set up. The barrel sticks out the front a half inch? It looks like a bull barrel with no bushing. The guide rod is a full length one in blued.

Pistol Grips
The barrel s twist rate refers to the distance a bullet travels in the barrel to complete a full revolution. For instance, a 1/9" twist means that the bullet will make a complete revolution for each 9 inches traveled in the barrel. Heavier bullets require a faster twist rate to stabilize them correctly, but too fast of a twist rate Pistol Grips potentially cause a bullet to spin apart. For this reason it is important to match a barrel to the bullets being fired. In selecting a single twist rate for the survival AR, either a 1/7" or a 1/9" will serve the purpose best. These barrels are designed for bullets from 55 to 62 grains, and these are the weights that will most likely be used in survival. The 1/9 is the better of the two, but the majority of Colts/military barrels are 1/7.

The gun has loosened up a little bit and the finish is trashed, but it just keeps ticking. I had issues in the past with Kimber MIM breakage but this particular gun has gained my confidence as a fighting gun. I won't make some outrageous claim like it has never malfunctioned but malf's have been extremely rare. The malf rate would be far less than 1% if I kept track. I abuse this pistol and shoot dirty reloaded 230 gr RNL as my primary practice load. It rarely sees factory ammo since prices have gone through the roof. When training with it, the gun does not get lubed or cleaned until the day is over. Once again, it just keeps ticking.
I'd give an original Classic Custom a serious look. Instead of tearing right into it, you may want to shoot it a bit to see what really needs done. While I'm not the least bit against customizing a pistol (obviously), I think shooting and training, not the internet, should tell you what needs changing.
I think the best accessory you can buy for a relaible gun is practice kimber 1911 hand gun.

Colt Defender
Here's the story:
Picked up a new Colt Defender two weeks ago. Went to the range, had some extraction problems; fairly random, but every 15 rounds, or so, the extractor would jump the rim and fail to extract. Get it home, check the extractor tension...is very weak. Well, no big deal, was going to have a local smith do a trigger job, so I figure Ill have him tune the extractor while it's there.
I have two brand new sets of Colt original equipment grip panels with Colt gold medallion for a Colt Government model. They have been sitting in storage for the 380 colt mustang. $25 shipped for each pair, buy both sets for $45 shipped.
So, pick the pistol up today (great trigger job BTW) and head straight to the range. Same crap. Head straight back to the smith, he adjusts the tension again. Get home, strip the pistol and check the tension with the extractor in the pistol (using the loaded round/shake the slide method). The extractor barely grips WWB cases, and Corbon and Speer brass falls right out. Scratch my head.
At this point I pull out two other 1911s that I know have perfect extractors (est. 8000 rounds through both with no extraction issues); both Kimbers. I remove the extractors from both pistols, and check the Colt 25 extractor in both. Tension is perfect in both Kimbers. So, I then try both of the Kimber extractors in the Colt...same problem, no tension on the case. At this point I'm getting what the problem is. Nevertheless, just to be sure, I grab a spare extractor to play around with. No matter how much bend I put in the Colt 1903, it still will not grip the case any harder; I had that extractor bent pretty much sideways and it made no ruger p 85 other than barely being able to push it in the channel.
Visually it appears the Colt extractor channel was cut too far to the side of the slide for the extractor to be tensioned, regardless of how much it is bent. Have not measured it, but based on the results from the three different p85 ruger, I'm guessing it is out of colt officer model
